COVID-19: Kashmir Masjids remain silent for 2nd Friday

Srinagar, Apr 3: As the positive case for deadly Coronavirus witnessed surge in Jammu and Kashmir, the Masjids as well as shrines across the Union territory continued to remain closed for the people for the second consecutive Friday as precautionary measure.
All the main masjids and shrines across Jammu and Kashmir including Dargah Hazratbal and historic Jamia Masjid remained closed for the prayers.

All the Masjids across Jammu and Kashmir remained locked while few of the Masjids in southern districts witnessed attendance of two to three persons on Friday prayers.

The people were advised to offer prayers at the home to prevent the deadly virus from spreading. The Masjids across Jammu and Kashmir were closed by the administration in wake of the deadly virus to prevent it from spreading.

Besides, many of the people who were found violating the government orders were arrested by the police across the Valley.

According to the details available, at least 22 people were arrested in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district for defying prohibitory orders. In Police Station Kulgam, seven persons were arrested for violating government orders, officials said, adding that a case under FIR number 50/2020 under section 188,269 has been registered in this regard.

In Police Station Devsar, five persons were arrested and a case under FIR number 28/2020 under section 188,269 IPC has been lodged, police said, adding that in Police Station Yaripora, ten persons were arrested and a case under FIR number 29/2020 under section 188,269 IPC has been registered in this regard.

In Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said that at least 24 persons were arrested throughout the day for violating the government orders imposed under section144 CrPC.

Police said that 24 more persons have been arrested while two vehicles were seized by Handwara Police in its jurisdictional Police Stations, saying that in the jurisdiction of Police Station Handwara, a case under FIR number 103/2020 under section 188 IPC has been registered against four persons who were found violating the orders imposed by District Magistrate under section 144 CrPC.

In the jurisdiction of Police Station Qalamabad, eight persons have been arrested and one vehicle seized and a Case under FIR number 20/2020 under section 188 IPC has been registered.

Similarly, in the jurisdiction of Police Station Vilgam, a case under FIR number 21/2020 under section 188 IPC has been registered in which 12 persons have been arrested and one vehicle seized for violating the orders imposed under section 144 CrPC.
