Another COVID-19 case surfaces in Ladakh, tally rises to 11

Leh, Apr 2: One more person has tested positive for Coronavirus in the border town of Kargil, bringing the total number of infected people to 11 in Union Territory of Ladakh.

The positive case comes after a gap of over two weeks during which all the test results for the infection came negative in the UT, where three COVID-19 positive patients have been successfully treated.

“One test result came positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday from Sanjak in Kargil,” Ladakh UT spokesperson Rigzin Samphel told reporters here on Wednesday.

He said as soon as the authorities came to know about the positive case, the officials went to Sanjak and started contact tracing in the area. “As the patient was already showing symptoms, he was already quarantined in the hospital,” Samphel said.

He said the patient has no travel history. “But he has been in contact with people who have travel history of Iran though they themselves are negative,” he said, adding their samples have also been taken and sent for tests. “Today we have sent 30-40 samples to Delhi,” he added.

The spokesperson said the authorities have also been informed that the patient had visited Achina Thang in Leh. “A team headed by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) are in the area since Wednesday evening and has started contact tracing,” he said.

Samphel said if required both the areas – Sanjak and Achina Thang – will be brought in the containment policy.
