230 militants active in Kashmir: IGP Kashmir

Srinagar: IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar today said 230 militants are active in Kashmir valley.

He told KNS that 28 militants were killed in Kashmir this year in different encounter with security forces.
“We had many successful operations this year. Top commanders of LeT, JeM and HM were killed in these encounters,” he said.

He added that 11 militants were also appended by the security forces and 8 militants who had recently joined militant ranks were handed over to their families.

IGP Kashmir added that a crackdown has been launched against Over Ground Workers (OGWs) who act as guides and give logistic support to militants.

“So far we have arrest 65 OGWs. Three OGWs of Pulwama were arrested in Jammu for facilitating entry of militants in Kashmir. We also counsel C category OGWS and release them.”

He added that police is receiving overwhelming response from public during the outreach programmes launched by police department.

Regarding the busting of hideout in Tral area, he said, “Three JEM militants were using the Buchoo Tral hideout. They ran away when security forces launched the CASO there. IED making material was recovered besides fresh food and documents.

IGP also said that police has launched prevention awareness campaigns on Coronovirus in various area of Kashmir besides sensitizing cops. (KNS)
