Need to block supply chain to curb rising drug menace: Police

Sopore: The number of drug users in Jammu and Kashmir is increasing with each passing day.

As per the data available with 22 cases of drug peddlers came to fore in Sopore town of north Kashmir during the year 2019-20, which indicates J&K nearly behind Punjab in terms of drug use.

34 persons were arrested from 2019-20 from the town. This is the record of just a single town. Police have been arrested the drug peddlers across the Valley on almost daily basis.

A senior police officer told GNS that the drug addiction in Kashmir is taking a ā€œdangerousā€ shape. ā€œThe drug users are increasing every passing day. However, we have to block the supply chain to check this activity. A successful investigation and prosecution of these cases will help achieve desired results,ā€ he said.

SSP Sopore Javeed Iqbal told that police is working hard to spread awareness among general masses about the ill effects of drug abuse. He said police are always playing a vital role to reduce the conception of drugs and are requesting the general public to walk shoulder to shoulder with police in eradicating the growing menace from Valley.

ā€œWe took proper measures to counsel the addicted youth, gave them proper meditation and well course of education which will help them stay away from this drastic habit,ā€ the officer said.
