Piles of garbage, unattended at Parimpora bus stand

Srinagar: Despite lofty claims of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to make the Srinagar neat and clean, bus stand at Parimpora has turned into garbage dumping site.

Locals blamed the shopkeepers and vendors for the garbage mess at Bus stand and said there is no sanitation in the newly constructed bus terminal.

As per the group, they made ‘repeated attempts’ to raise the matter with the concerned authorities but there was no response from them.

Ali Mohammad, a shopkeeper bus stand said that negligence of SMC has to lead to piles of garbage. On daily basis they should clear the garbage from the bus stand, he said.

“Heaps of garbage is lying open and foul smell from garbage is becoming the breeding ground for many diseases causing health problems to pedestrians,” he said.

Another local resident, Mansoor Ahmad said that dogs are always seen searching for food in these dumps. It poses threat to locals particularly passengers in reaching their destinations

He said the solid waste including plastic bags, polythene and vegetable wastes are being spotted on every corner of the site. Authorities have turned a blind eye toward this issue. Many a times, authorities do not lift garbage from the place even in the evenings,” Ahmad said.

According to the locals, during evening vendors, shopkeepers at evening throw the waste at the site but nobody is taking serious these things.

An official at SMC told Agencies that they would clear all the garbage from the bus stand.  “The corporation began the fresh sanitation drive within two days, he said.
