Fulfill Demands Or We Will Lock Down All PHE Schemes: Land Donors To Administration

Srinagar, Feb 16 : Scores of land donors from different parts of Valley Sunday threatened to lock down all scheme projects of PHE on their lands, if the government fails to fulfill their promises.

Protesters were shouting slogans against the government and PHE for failing to provide them permanent jobs and release their pending wages from past 2 years .

The protestors said that before 10-18 years ago the land was taken from the landlords by the government for different Public Health Engineering (PHE) schemes. The government promised that each one from family will provide permanent job, but all has turned fake, they said.

One of the land donor, Asim Asif from Ganderbal told JKNS landowners had given their land to PHE and Irrigation & Flood Control department in year 2000.

He  said landlords were later appointed as casual labours in the said department. After that government announced permanent jobs to the land donors but instead of providing jobs they stopped our salaries, Asif said.

“Despite working since 2000, on meager salaries, no initiative was taken by the government to address our issues,” he said.

Another land donor, Yousuf Dar said the government has failed to keep its promises and threatened to “close down the schemes for which their land was utilized, if their services are not regularized.”

Dar demanded that all land owners should be regularized as promised by the government earlier, adding that there are around 1500 daily wagers engaged in PHE and Irrigation department.

”We have no source of income except this land, but despite repeated attempts government has turned deaf ears to our issue, he added.

The protectors threatened that if the government would not solve  their matter they will hit the streets and block all the water supply schemes in the concerned areas.

The protestors appealed to Lt. Governor led administration to look into the matter, so that issue will be solved as soon as possible.
