Srinagar: National Investigation Agency has arrested a key accused in the attack on a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) vehicle at Sunjuwan Jammu last month.
NIA said accused Abid Ahmad Mir resident of Putrigam, Rajpora was arrested from Pulwama on Wednesday.
The NIA spokesperson said Mir was an overground worker of Jaish-e-Mohammad.
“Investigation has revealed that accused Abid Mir is an Over Ground Worker of JeM and was a close associate of arrested accused Bilal Ahmed Wagay. He was also in touch with Pakistan based handlers of JeM. He knowingly and voluntarily had extended support to the other co-accused persons in the commission of the instant crime,” the spokesperson said, adding further investigation in the case continues.
In the early hours of April 22, the security personnel during a joint search operation in the Sunjwan, were fired upon by unknown militants in which a CISF officer was killed and several others were injured. The forces retaliated the attack and killed two terrorists on the spot.
The case was initially registered in police station Bahu Fort, Jammu and it was re-registered by NIA on April 26. The NIA took over the investigations of the case following a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
