Srinagar: A pall of gloom has descended on Hushroo village in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir over the killing of a 35-year-old woman TikToker and television artist Amreen Bhat.
Her 10-year-old nephew was wounded in the attack on Wednesday evening.
The entire village has slipped into shock after the cold-blooded murder. Family members said she was trying to spread happiness through videos.
“It is cruel to kill this lady,” said Zubair Ahmed, brother-in-law of Amreen. “She was just like my daughter.”
He said he had gone to offer prayers on Wednesday evening when he heard the sounds of gunshots. “I rushed back and came to know that three men had come to our home and asked my 10-year-old son Farhan to call Massi ( Amreen) for some shooting. He went and when she came out they opened fire on her,” Zahoor said. “We shifted her to Chaoora hospital and later SMHS Srinagar, but she could not survive.”
Clamour for justice is growing shriller by the hour. “She was earning for her poor family. We never thought she would be snatched like this,” he added.
Zubair said Amreen was innocent and had done nothing wrong.
She had been working as a local artist for the last one decade. The trophies and certificates are displayed in Amreen’s room.
The villagers said they were shocked to know about the killing of a budding performer in the area.
” Entire area is in shock,” said a local resident over the phone.
Police had blamed Lashkar-e-Toiba for the killing.
“Three terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT were involved in this heinous terror incident,” police said.
This year at least ten civilians including a Kashmiri Pandit have been killed in targeted attacks. Amreen is the first woman this year to have been shot dead by militants in Kashmir.
