Srinagar: With the help of Umeed, a woman from Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama has started a shop which is helping her to make her dreams come true.
Gulshan Banoo (44), a resident of Shaar Shali Pampore has started a Kiryana shop in her locality to earn livelihood last year which has helped her to become financially independent.
Gulshan while talking to KNO said that she came to know about Self Help Groups through a woman in 2018 and joined it with a budget of monthly Rs 100 per month.
“After some time, I took a loan and started selling small items and slowly and steadily after working hard, we have managed to open a big shop in which all items are available now,” she said.
“Whatever I was earning earlier, I used to buy new items for my shop. Currently, I have a good shop where almost all items are available which is giving me good profit,”she added.
According to her, women irrespective of their education should take benefit of the government schemes so as to earn their livelihood themselves.
She suggested women to take benefits of the UMEED scheme like her by joining SHGs in their areas so that they too can become financially self-dependent.
“There are dozens of government schemes available and our youth must take full toll of them so as to become financially independent and become job providers rather than job seekers,” she added,
