Srinagar: J&K Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested four drug peddlers in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
Acting on a specific information, a police party arrested two drug peddlers in Kupwara when they were on their way to sell charas (contraband) to the youth of the area in lieu of money.
The accused have been identified as Javeed Ahmad Wani and Rayees Ahmad Khan Qayoom Khan, both are the residents of Halmatpora. The duo have been shifted to the police station where they remain in custody.
In a separate action, a police party established a checkpoint at Tikker area of Kupwara during which two more drug peddlers, identified as Mohd Hussain Lone, a resident of Mirnag Hyhama and Manzoor Ahmad Khoja of Manwan Awoora, were held and contraband substances in their possession were recovered.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at Police Station Kupwara and further investigation in both the cases were on, the police added.
