Anantnag, Feb 22: Residents of Soaf Shali village of Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district staged a protest against Power Development Department (PDD) for failing to install transformer in the locality.
Residents claimed that they are without the transformer from the last one month. The agitating residents raised slogans against the PDD for failing to install the transformer.
Local residents told Precious Kashmir that “we have to go to far-off places to charge our mobile phones. We are unable to charge other gadgets. We visited the office of PDD department. But nothing was done on ground by the officials. They never listened to us. They demand money for the transformer.”
They further said that our transformer, which had developed a technical snag one month ago, was taken by the officials of PDD for repairing. However, the officials failed to repair and install it. But now the residents of Soaf Shali demanded PDD department should install the transformer as soon as possible in the area.
A student among the protesters said, during exam time we students studied in the candle light.
“Non-availability of electricity has also affected education of our children and our children cannot study properly during night time,” said a parent Mohd Yousuf.
