Srinagar, Sep 16: Train service remained suspended for the second day on Sunday in the Kashmir valley, where three militants were killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Kulgam district on Saturday morning.
Train service was suspended in north Kashmir as there were some protests while in south Kashmir the service was suspended as a precautionary measure following the killing of three Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants yesterday.
A railway official said that no train will chug on Budgam-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region for the second day Sunday. Similarly no train will on Srinagar-Budgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir. Train service was resumed on Friday after remaining suspended on Thursday in north Kashmir, where two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants were killed in an encounter by security forces in apple township of Sopore.
Train service will be resumed only after receiving a fresh advisory from the authorities, he said adding we are acting on the advice of police. Train service has become very popular in the valley as it is cheap, fast and safe against other mode of transport.
