Srinagar, Sep 3: The residents of Kund Qazigund Tehsil aid that they face acute shortage of water supply for past two weeks.
The residents including Katipora Waripora, Nowbough, Gujar Colony of the Tehsil said that they are just a few kilometers away from famous water spring popularly known as Vasak Nag, which supplies water to about 30 villages.
Miffed over the callous attitude of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, the villagers of these areas threatened to hit the streets if the problem is not solved.
They alleged that the water supply to their village has been snapped for the past two weeks and they were forced to consume contaminated water. “The consumption of contaminated water has led to water-borne diseases like jaundice and gastroenteritis” Abdul Rashid, a local resident.
He said residents cover a distance of almost a kilometer to fetch drinking water from tube wells which consume a lot of our precious time and energy.
“If we are paying water tariff on time, why has the department failed to ensure round-the-clock supply?” asked Malik Javid, a resident of Nowbough village”.
When contacted Executive Engineer PHE of the area Ghulam Nabi Bhat said “the issue has come to my notice as soon as there will be an availability of funds, we will install a pipelines and within a week we restore the water supply in affected villages”. (PTK)
