Pakistan’s Prime Minister in waiting Imran Khan has said that his country is ready to improve ties with India.
“If they take one step towards us, we will take two, but at least (we) need a start,” Khan said in his first public address after leading his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to victory in the general elections.
Imran’s statement has been welcomed by most of the Kashmiri leaders as all of them has said that it’s a good beginning. Everyone in Kashmir is aware of the fact ties between India and Pakistan have to improve for peace to prevail in Jammu and Kashmir.
Imran Khan by showing inclination towards establishing peace with India is a good omen. He has dispelled the notion that Pakistan is not interested in forging friendly with India.
At present all the eyes are on Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and how would it shape up the new policy of Pakistan. The neighboring country is grappling with number of issues and it needs to come out of the mess. Only the strong political leadership can pull out Pakistan out of the troubled waters.
It may take a few more days for clearer picture to emerge but one thing is for sure that Imran has put the ball in New Delhi’s court and has asked it to respond. Now it remains to be seen whether people sitting in Delhi would take a call or wait for Imran to settle down. On the other hand Imran would have to gauge the situation even within his own country as he is not the only player in Pakistan who matters. There are players who are bigger than him and want and want to run their country in their own way.
