Lucknow: The Supreme Court recently ordered former Uttar Pradesh chief ministers to vacate their official residences, however, Bahujan Samaj Party has reportedly converted her official accommodation into a memorial for late party supremo Kanshiram. Instead of vacating her official residence at 13 A, Mall Avenue, Lucknow, Mayawati has got a signboard on the premises declaring it to be ‘Shri Kanshiram ji Yaadgar Vishraam Sthal’. Earlier this month, the top court had directed all former chief ministers of the state to vacate their government bungalows. The order had been issued in response to a PIL filed by NGO Lok Prahari after the UP Assembly passed an amendment which permitted all former chief ministers of the state to stay in government bungalows for a lifetime. Following the court order, the Estate Department had issued notices to six former chief ministers, namely Narayan Dutt Tiwari, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Kalyan Singh, Mayawati, Rajnath Singh and Akhilesh Yadav, asking them to vacate their official government bungalows to comply with the SC orders, PTI reported. While Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had written to the department stating that he would be shifting to his own residence in Gomti Nagar soon, Akhilesh and Mulayam Singh Yadav were said to be in the look-out to buy a new house in the city.
