It’s unfortunate that RSS leaders and others are not allowing the situation in Jammu and Kashmir to settle down.
Repeated statements of the RSS leaders about Article 370 being temporary and it has to go can stir the hornet’s nest in Jammu and Kashmir.
The leaders of the rightwing parties seem hell bent upon vitiating peace in the Valley. They just believe in raking up controversies. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has time and again asked the leaders from rightwing parties to mind their own business and stay away from Kashmir affairs but they have not changed their attitude. Such statements lead to animosity between the coalition partners and derails the development process in the state.
When PDP and BJP joined hands in J&K to form the government in 2015 both the parties agreed in principle that they won’t rake up the controversial issues and the focus would be on governance. But the leaders of the parties affiliated with the BJP during the past three years have left no opportunity to rake such issues which lead to discord.
Recently a senior RSS leader that Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir is temporary and militant activities have reduced due to the policies of government and separatist leaders are in jails.
Such assertions can derail the peace initiative started by BJP led NDA government in the state. Leaders based in other states should stop playing politics over Kashmir. They should realize that J&K is a sensitive state and aspirations of the local people have to be respected. They cannot play with the sentiments of the people again and again.
Such statements indicate that rightwing parties are least bothered to safeguard the interests of the PDP, which despite all odds joined hands with the saffron party to form the government in J&K. This attitude has to change.
