Handwara, June 4: Authorities in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district Thursday suspended a Medical Officer (MO) for discharging eight people from a quarantine centre without seeing their final test results.

Officials told KNO that the MO Dr Irfan was suspended for discharging eight people from a quarantine Centre at Handwara without seeing their final test reports.

The official said a number of complaints against Dr. Irfan were received by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) through Block Medical Officer Handwara.

Taking strong note of the development, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Handwara asked Dr Irfan to explain his position within six hours on Thursday.

Officials said that letting eight people from the quarantine centre go home was a gross violation and negligence on part of the doctor in view of the impact of pandemic on the general public.

“The unilateral decision has put the whole administration at back foot and all the hard earned efforts have been badly affected by the actions of the doctor,” officials told KNO

The doctor has been suspended with immediate effect and has been directed to report to sub-district hospital Tangdhar.
