Is Govt planning to re-open schools from mid-June?

Srinagar, June 1: The authorities in J&K plan to re-open educational institutions from mid-June , raising eyebrows from different stakeholders.

The disclosure about re-opening schools from mid-June has come to fore in a communique written by School Education department to both directors of School about procurement  of essential hand sanitizers, reusable masks, hand gloves and liquid soap.

“ As government intends to re-open schools in mid of June, 2020, I am directed to convey to ensure safety measures in all Govt. Schools to arrest spread of Corona Virus to students and staff,” reads communique from Director Finance of the department to both directors, a copy of which is with KNO.
“In this connection necessary instructions may be circulated to heads of all government schools to provide a pair of reusable masks and a pair of hand gloves to every student and ensure availability of one thousand (1000) ml bulk hand sanitizes and 1200 ml liquid soap with disperser at entry point to each Government school,” reads the order copy.
It further that the expenditure on this account shall be debited to Samagra Grants released to all institutions for day to day expenses.
After outbreak of COVID-19, this is for the first time that school department has talked about the reopening of schools in J&K.
Meanwhile, parents across Valley have questioned the move, saying that  authorities should realise that masks and sanitisers are no vacancies.
“How can schools be re-opened when more than 100 cases are reported every day?  We cannot put lives of our kids at risk,” a group of parents said.
