COVID-19: J&K records 3 more deaths, 155 fresh cases; toll 31; tally crosses 2600 mark

Jammu and Kashmir recorded three more COVID-19 deaths on Monday taking the death toll to 31, while as 155 more people tested positive for the deadly virus. Fresh cases have taken the tally of the infected persons across the Union Territory to 2601.
Of the three causalities two patients hailing from south Kashmir’s Shopian district died in the Valley while one death was reported from Jammu.
Quoting official sources local news agency KNT reported that the all the three persons who died tested positive for COVID-19 after their deaths.
Medical Superintendent GMC Jammu, Dr. Dara Singh said that an elderly man with comorbidities from Doda district died at Government Medical College Jammu. He said Coronavirus was an additional factor while he was suffering from multiple ailments.
A middle aged man from Ramnagri area of Shopian district died at SKIMS Soura during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Medical Superintendent Dr Farooq Jan said that the patient was admitted in the hospital on Sunday and he died during late hours. He said it was a case of “CKD, ESRD with b/l Chest infiltrates.” “After his death he tested positive for the COVID-19,” he said.
Another elderly man from Hanjipora Shopian died at District Hospital Pulwama. Deputy Medical Superintendent District Hospital Pulwama, Dr Mir Mushtaq said that 70-year-old-man was brought dead to the hospital during morning hours. “His sample was taken which came out to be positive,” he said adding the deceased had comorbidities like COPD.

With the three deaths the death toll due to COVID-19 has touched to 31, 27 in Kashmir and 4 in Jammu. Srinagar city has highest number of fatalities seven.

155 new cases in J&K, tally surpasses 2600 mark

Meanwhile, 155 persons, including 56 from Kashmir and 99 from Jammu, tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, the total number of infected people in the Union Territory of J&K has surpassed 2600 mark.

Of the 155 new positive cases, 96, including 44 from Ramban in Jammu, are people, who have recently returned from outside J&K.

An official on Monday said that 56 more people tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir division while 99 new cases were reported from Jammu. “Ramban recorded the highest number of 53 new COVID-19 cases followed by Doda with 21 cases,” he said, adding 12 persons tested positive for the infection in Anantnag.

“Kupwara registered 11 new COVID-19 cases,” he said, adding Srinagar recorded 10 and Jammu witnessed eight new cases.

He said six persons each tested positive in Baramulla and Kulgam while Kathua and Shopian registered five new cases. “Pulwama and Kishtwar recorded four new positive cases each while three persons tested positive in Rajouri,” he said, adding Bandipora, Budgam and Reasi were the only three districts with no new COVID-19 case.
With 155 new cases, he said the total number of infected persons in J&K has risen to 2601. “Out of these, 1999 are in Kashmir and 602 are in Jammu,” he said.

 

He said the total active positive cases in the UT stand at 1624, including 1157 from Kashmir and 467 from Jammu.

He said 19 COVID-19 patients from J&K were discharged on Monday after being treated successfully. “As many as 946 positive patients were treated and discharged successfully so far,” he said.
