More vehicles ply on roads as Delhi enters Lockdown 4.0

New Delhi, May 18: With the country entering the fourth phase of lockdown on Monday, the national capital witnessed an increase in the number of vehicles on roads, especially those going towards Noida.
The upward trend continued in the evening also, with several areas and important roads witnessing traffic jams, however, the situation was still better than a normal day, when vehicles, including two, three and four-wheelers, which cover the roads fully.
Morning hours witnessed serpentine queues of vehicles on the Delhi Noida Directway, besides towards the Kalindi Kunj route. The road leading to Noida was jam-packed, as entry to pass holders was allowed by the authorities.
Some of those who were travelling to Noida to attend office, also returned due to the massive traffic jam, a private company employee said.
The Delhi traffic police had also advised people on Twitter to avoid taking the road to border from Kalindi Kunj side, as well as DND, because vehicles with Noida DM’s pass were only allowed to move on those roads.
The old Delhi streets also witnessed more crowd than before in view of the relaxations, however, the situation eased out after 1900 hrs.
A person said that everyone needs to be more careful now as the restrictions have been further relaxed and one must take all preventive measures, as ”We all will have to learn to live with the virus”.
Many markets also buzzed with activity as more shops opened and people flocked to them in small numbers.
Following the guidelines and relaxations provided by the Delhi government, the shops will open on an odd-even basis, while people will be allowed to move out for purchasing essentials between 0700 hrs to 1900 hrs, but will have to follow the rules laid out with reference to travel by two-wheelers, three-wheelers and public transport measures that have been now permitted.
Metro services, air travel, colleges, schools, hotels, cinema halls, restaurants and shopping malls will, however, continue to remain shut across the nation.
