COVID-19 cases in India mount to 74,281 with 2,415 deaths; 24,385 recover  

New Delhi, May 13: India saw a sharp hike in the coronavirus cases as 3,525 people tested positive in the past 24 hrs, taking the country’s infection tally to 74,281, Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

The death toll due to the pandemic now stands at 2415, after 122 fresh fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours, across the nation, the ministry updated.

The total number of active cases in the country at present stand at 47,480 and as many as 1,931 people have recovered from the illness in past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries till now to 24,385.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-hit state with 24,427 COVID-19 cases and 921 deaths so far.

The second worst-hit state — Gujarat, too, continues to report a high number of COVID-19 cases with the current tally standing at 8,903 and 537 fatalities.

National Capital Delhi now houses 7,639 confirmed SARS-COV-19 cases with fatalities reaching 86.

Tamil Nadu has also witnessed a sharp rise in the infection cases with its tally mounting to 8,718 and 61 people succumbing to the virus.
