IMD predicts thunderstorm, gusty winds in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 4: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a warning for isolated thunderstorm, lightening and gusty winds in Kashmir and Jammu region during the next 48 hours.

There could be rain or snow in Ladakh region during the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature remained above normal while the minimum temperature was below normal at most places in the Kashmir valley, IMD spokesman said on Monday evening.

He issued a warning for isolated thunderstorms, lightening and gusty winds at a speed of 30km to 40 km during the next 48 hours in Jammu and Kashmir. However there is no such warning for Ladakh region, he said.

He said there could be scattered light rain and thunderstorm over Jammu and Kashmir regions and also isolated light rain or snow in Ladakh region during the next 24 hours. Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rain or snow during the subsequent two days in the UT, he added.

He said Kupwara in north was hottest in the Kashmir valley after the maximum temperature was 24.8 degree, 2.1 degree above normal.

World famous health resort of Pahalgam recorded near normal of 19 degree maximum temperature, lowest in the valley, while summer capital, Srinagar, Qazigund, Kokernag witnessed above day temperature. However, famed ski resort of Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Kokernag recorded 0.3 degree to 2.5 degree below normal minimum temperature.

He said there could be light rain and thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 20 degree and 9 degree respectively in Srinagar during the next 24 hours.

Partly cloudy sky with light rain and thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperature will be around 30 degree and 18 degree respectively in Jammu during the next 24 hours, he said.

There could be light rain or snow and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 18 degree and 8 degree respectively in Leh during the next 24 hours.
