Another pregnant woman dies in Anantnag hospital

Doctor, nurse suspended; her family didn’t allow us to follow COVID-19 protocol, says MS

Srinagar, May 3: A doctor and a nurse were suspended on Sunday in Anantnag after a pregnant woman died due to alleged delay in treatment at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Seer Hamdan.
The deceased Shakeela wife of Zahoor Ahmad of Salia Anantnag was admitted to SDH Seer Hamdan on Saturday around 3 pm.
An official told news agency KINS that she was kept at a ward till Saturday evening. “She developed severe pain on Saturday evening. She was referred to Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) Anantnag on Sunday morning where she breathed her last,” the official said.
Soon after here death Block Medical Officer Mattan suspended a Medical Officer and staff nurse who were on night duty when the incident took place.

The family alleged that the delay in the treatment at SDH Seer by the concerned doctors led to her death.
This is the second death of a pregnant lady in Anantnag district within eight days. Earlier, a pregnant lady had died after giving birth to dead twins at MCH Anantnag. She had tested positive after her death.

 

‘Lady was brought dead to hospital’

Meanwhile, authorities at Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) Anantnag Sunday claimed that that pregnant lady Shakeela from Seer was brought dead to the hospital and the family of the deceased did not allow officials to follow COVID-19 protocol.

The deceased woman died this morning after which a doctor and a nurse were suspended for alleged delay in treatment at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Seer Hamdan.
“She was brought dead to hospital. Her family did not allow us to follow COVID-19 protocol. When officials from microbiology went to take her samples, her family took her body away on a trolley,” Medical Superintendent Child and Maternity Hospital Anantnag, Dr SM Andrabi, told news agency KINS.

The family members of the deceased alleged medical negligence. A video also went viral where the family members carried the body out of the hospital on a trolley and demanded justice.

“Preliminary reports suggest the dead body was taken away by relatives fearing they will have to wait for burial if sample is taken for COVID-19 test. Most unfortunate to say the least,” DC Anantnag Bashir Ahmad Dar Tweeted.

After taking her out on trolley, the family also held a protest on the road.
