SC issues notice for refund of flight tickets cancelled in lockdown

New Delhi, Apr 27: Supreme Court, on Monday, issued a notice to the Ministry of Civil Aviation on a plea seeking airlines to refund full fare of the tickets cancelled due to imposition of lockdown to contain the spread of Covid-19.
“We issue notice to the Civil Aviation and the DG of Civil Aviation and seek a detailed response on the petition filed by the petitioner, Pravasi Legal Cell, an NGO,” a three-judge bench of the Apex Court headed by Justice N V Ramana said.
The Apex Court said, ”We wanted to know from the respective parties and the respondents about the detailed case and facts and fixed the matter for further hearing, without giving any date”.
The NGO, PLC, had moved the Apex Court, seeking a direction o all airlines to refund full fare to its respective passengers on tickets booked before lockdown for travel during lockdown duration as flights cancelled by airlines.
The petitioner further stated that the airlines at this Covid lockdown time should refund the full fares to its passengers when they had booked their tickets during this period and nationwide lockdown time.
Respective airlines should follow and adhere the rules and statute and regulations laid down by the civil aviation ministry and other concerned authorities in this regard.
