COVID-19: 40 deaths, 1035 fresh positive cases recorded across India in 24 hours; tally at 7529, death toll 242

New Delhi, Apr 11: The total number of Novel Coronavirus cases in the country surpassed the 7000-mark on Saturday, with death toll soaring to 242, as 40 fresh casualties were reported in the past 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry.
However, the pandemic has yet not entered the community transmission phase, the Ministry said.
With over 1035 cases reported in past one day, the number has gone up to a total of 7529 confirmed cases across the country.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the current figure of the active cases now stands at 6634 while the number of cured and discharged cases are 652 so far, with a little improvement.

Country’s response to the pandemic has been proactive as the government has followed a graded approach, said Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal while briefing the press this evening.

The number of COVID 19 dedicated hospitals are 586 and the isolation beds are 1 lakh across the country, he added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs through a letter on Saturday requested all states and the Union Territories to provide police security to doctors and medical staff as required across hospitals , quarantine centers , Joint Secretary MHA Punya Salila Srivastava said.

In Maharasthra, which is so far the worst affected state by COVID-19 the cases have gone up to 1574 with fresh spike, followed by Tamil Nadu where the number has gone up to 911, followed by the national capital housing 903 confirmed cases.

Rajasthan is now at number three with 553 cases followed by Telangana with 503 cases.

Maharasthra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh are the states that have seen a surge in the numbers.
