Encounter breaks out in Sopore

Srinagar, Apr 8: An encounter broke out between militants and security forces at Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday morning.

Official sources said that following specific information about presence of militants, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police, Army and CRPF late on Tuesday night in Arampora in Sopore.

Security forces conducted searches in the area and deployed additional forces to completely seal the area to foil any attempts by militants to escape. “Contact was established with militants early in the morning,” they said.

The encounter was on when the reports last came in, they said, adding that two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.
