Kupwara, Apr 5: A case for violating the Section 144 was registered against contractor, construction site owner and several labourers in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

They were engaged in construction work on a ‘shopping complex’ amid lockdown over coronavirus pandemic.

Acting on specific information about the ongoing construction work, a team under the supervision of District Magistrate Javid Ahmad Zargar inspected the site, reports said.

During the inspection, the Magistrate ordered for immediate action against about a dozen labourers, while as contractor Tajamul Ahmad and the owner Abdul Qayoom managed to give slip to the team.

Both of them continue to remain at large, reports added.

Talking to this correspondent, the District Magistrate said the construction work comes as a blatant violation to the ongoing lockdown.

“We have lodged FIR against the offenders and action against them (for violating Section 144) will follow,” he said.

With the continuous surge of positive cases of coronavirus (COVID-19), a complete lockdown is being observed across many countries in the world, including India, where a 21-day-lockdown has been clamped down by the Government of India, from March 24 up to April 14. (GNS)
