COVID-19: Kashmir remains under lockdown for 16th day

Srinagar, Apr 4: Normal life across Kashmir continued to remain affected due to the lockdown for the 16th straight day on Saturday in wake of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

Police and paramilitary men continued to remain deployed on the roads to enforce the restrictions here. Witnesses said that the security forces had erected concertina wires, thus halting the vehicular as well as pedestrians’ movement.

Many people have so far been booked by the concerned authorities for violating the government’s prohibitory orders. Police officials said that in Srinagar, many shopkeepers were arrested especially from Habba Kadal area after they were found violating the government orders under section 144 CrPc.

Besides, four shops were also sealed by the Tehsildar in Bandipora district of northern Kashmir today after they were found violating the government orders.

Moreover, the situation was similar in Jammu region where strict restrictions remained in place and people preferred to stay indoors throughout the day.

Officials said that a large number of people returning from outside areas were also intercepted by police at check points as well as other teams of government and were sent to quarantine centers.
