The government on Thursday evening said a total of 9,000 associated with Tablighi Jamaat and their contacts have been identified and sent to quarantined facilities so far.

A Home Ministry official said the efforts have been put in to search their contacts, as the group has emerged as a major source of COVID-19 infection across the country.

“Total 9,000 Tablighi Jamaat workers and their contacts have been identified across the nation and sent to quarantine. Among them, 1,306 are foreign nationals,” said MHA Joint Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava.

These people had attended a religious congregation, organised by the Tablighi Jamaat at the Nizamuddin Markaz last month, which led to a sudden spike in Coronavirus cases across the country.
