Kashmir orchadists demand smooth supply of pesticides, fertilizers

Srinagar: The orchadists of Kashmir have appealed the Lieutenant Governor to pass on the directions to police and adminstration for smooth supply of pesticides and fertilizers.

Taking to KNS, many orchadists informed that they are worried about their apple production this year after pesticides dealers are facing shortage of spraying material for apple trees required in this month as per Horticulture department schedule.

They added that even if a single spray of pesticides is missed from the spraying Schedule, it would affect the apple production in quality and quantity wise also.

When KNS contacted Director Horticulture Ajaz Ahmed, he said, ” I have informed the divisional adminstration, Chief Secretary regarding the issue. They assured me that smooth movement of pesticides and related items would be facilitated in Kashmir. Incase any orchadists or pesticides dealer faces any difficulty, he should immediately inform my office. I will take up issue with all the concerned Deputy Commissioners.”

Meanwhile Union home ministry has issued fresh guideline exempting additional categories related to agricultural operations. “They have been exempted under the Disaster Management Act, with respect to the 21- day lockdown,” an order stated.

The second addendum issued by home secretary Ajay Bhalla on Friday exempted farm workers in the fields and farming operations by farmers, agencies engaged in procurement of agriculture products including MSPs, mandis notified by the state governments, inter and intra-state movement of harvesting and sowing related machines and manufacturing, packaging units of fertilisers, pesticides and seeds, among others.
