Two LeT OGWs arrested, arms & ammunition recovered in Baramulla

Srinagar: Police arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) affiliated with banned terror outfit Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) and recovered arms and ammunition in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, official sources said here on Saturday.

They said that following specific information about presence of two OGWs in Baramulla, a joint operation was launched by police, army and CRPF in Pattan on Friday. “During the raids, security forces arrested two OGWs, identified as Showkat Ahmed Mir and Showkat Ahmed Yatoo,” they said.

They said the duo was providing logistic support to active militants of LeT. “During questioning, the duo gave away location where they had kept weapons,” they said, adding a team was rushed to the area and a pistol, a magazine and six rounds, one hand grenade and one Ak-47 magazine were recovered.

They said the duo also confessed to have helped five youth to travel to Pakistan on valid visas to get weapons training.

“Police has registered a case and initiated investigation into the incident,” they said, adding more people could be arrested in coming days.
