Amid lockdown no Friday congregations held in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 27: Amid lockdown for the ninth consecutive day today, no congregation prayers were offered in Kashmir on Friday.

Reports said that complete lockdown was observed across Kashmir, with authorities putting tough measures in place to impose the restrictions.

No Friday congregational prayers were offered anywhere, while people offered prayers at their homes, even as authorities on Wednesday ordered a blanket ban on religious gatherings at the places of worship.

Historical Jam Masjid in downtown Srinagar remained deserted, while in Dragah Hazrabal, police turned around one and a half dozen people back, who had turned up in the Dargah to offer a collective Friday prayer.

Shops, business establishments, offices and educational institutions, remained closed and roads also remained blocked with concertina wires and manned by the police.

Educational institutions across Kashmir were already closed, while all public places including gymnasiums, parks, clubs and restaurants were already ordered shut down.

Restrictions were first imposed in many parts of the Valley last week, to contain the spread of the virus.

Across Kashmir, in all the districts strict curfew-like restrictions were imposed on the movement and assembly of people. In many areas action was initiated against lockdown violators.

Local train service between Baramulla and Banihal also remained shut for 9th straight day.
