Sensex rallies 1410.99 pts as FM announces COVID-19 relief package

Mumbai:  The equity market kept it’s supremacy for the third straight session on Thursday as Sensex advanced by 1410.99 pts to settle at 29,946.77 on account of relief package announced by the government to check economic stress from coronavirus outbreak.

The Nifty too surged by 323.60 pts to settle at 8,641.45.

The markets bullied as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced Rs 1.7 crore relief package for farmers, poors and others facing financial woes from 21-day nationwide lockdown.The day opened on a strong note as the sensex rose 538 pts and settled at 29,073. It spurted by 1564 pts to 30,099 the days high before closing at 29,946.77.

Three years back in May 2017, the Sensex was at 29,804.

All the sectoral indices ended in green. Bankex was the major gainer up by more than 10 pc followed by FMCG, Finance, Telecom, Capital Goods.

In scrips, the star gainer was IndusInd bank which rallied by 45.07 pc to Rs 436 followed by Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, Kotak Bank. However, selling in Maruti Suzuki, Tech Mahindra capped from further gains, broker informed.
