Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday revoked detention of National Conference (NC) Vice President and former chief minister Omar Abdullah after about eight months.
”Government has issues orders revoking detention of Omar Abdullah,” spokesperson of the administration of J&K Rohit Kansal said on Tuesday.
The release order of Mr Abdullah comes less than two weeks after his father and NC president Farooq Abdullah was released following revocation of his detention under PSA after over seven months.
The NC VP, who turned 50 on March 10, has spent 232 days in custody.
Mr Omar, Mr Farooq and another former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti – besides dozens of other former ministers and legislators were detained on August 5, when Centre abrogated Article 370 and Article 35 A, besides bifurcating the state into two Union Territories.
Mr Omar was initially detained under preventive custody and later slapped with the PSA on February 5.
