Srinagar: In an out-of-the box solution, police has drawn circles outside ATMs and medical shops to make people maintain social distancing in Kashmir valley to curtail spread of Coronavirus.
The move was lauded by locals on social media, including twitter and Facebook, saying young police officers are making a difference by out of the box solutions.
Meanwhile, police in Srinagar is using UAV drones to appeal people not to come out of their houses, besides heighten the surveillance grid. “JKP using UAV (Drone) for appealing people not to come out in Srinagar City,” Kashmir Police Zone wrote on its official twitter handle.
Reports of such measures were coming from Ganderbal, Srinagar and some other parts of the valley, including north Kashmir, where a woman was tested positive for Coronavirus. “The idea behind drawing circles outside shops and ATMs was to make people maintain social distancing,” a police official said.
Authorities on Monday enforced a lock down to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the summer capital, Srinagar, and other parts of Kashmir valley, where normal life remained crippled due to strict restrictions since a woman was tested positive for the infection on Thursday.
The administration of J&K on Sunday announced a complete lock down till March 31 across the Union Territory as part of its efforts to prevent spread of Coronavirus. However, people associated with 16 essential services, including healthcare, groceries, fruit, milk, petrol, banks and media have been exempted from lock down.
The woman from downtown Srinagar, who had returned on 16 March from Saudi Arabia after performing Umrah, became the first person in the valley to be tested positive for Coronavirus. So far Kashmir has registered only one case while three cases were recorded in Jammu.
