‘Mughal Road To Opened In 2 To 3 Weeks’

Poonch: Authorities on Tuesday started snow clearance operation from the Bufliaz side in border district of Poonch along the historic 86-km-long Mughal road.

The Mughal Road, connecting the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region with South Kashmir’s Shopian district, was closed for traffic in November last year following heavy snowfall in the region.

Assistant Engineer Tariq Mehmood Khan said that the snow clearance was started from Bufliaz side in the border district of Poonch last week.

“We have to clear the snow from Surankote upto Peerkigali road which is about 46 kilometers. So far we have cleared 24 kilometers,” Khan said, adding that remaining 22 kilometers will also be cleared subject to fair weather conditions.

Khan said that the efforts are on to restore the road for the vehicular traffic and it will be re-opened likely within 2 two 3 weeks of time.
