Covid-19 takes 3rd life in India, peak ends in China

New Delhi: India reported its third death due to novel coronavirus as nearly 14,000 new infections were recorded globally over the past day with incidence declining in China where the deadly outbreak began in last December, authorities said.

World Health Organisation said in an update that the total number of confirmed cases stood at 167,511, with 13,903 new ones over the past 24 hours.

The global death toll, it said, had risen by 862 to 6,606 people.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India rose to 125 with Odisha reporting its first Covid-19 patient and new incidence in Karnataka, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir and Kerala.

A UNI report from Mumbai said a 64-year-old man, who was tested positive for nCov, died on Tuesday.

Parkash Modi, a resident of Ghatkopar suburb, was the first casualty of the pandemic in Maharashtra.

He had a travel history of Dubai. His wife as well as son have also tested positive for the coronavirus.

Last week, a 76-year-old man in Kalburgi, Karnataka and a 68-year-old woman in Delhi died. Both were tested positive for the virus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated the role of media in creating awareness about the pandemic in India.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said the Prime Minister has asked the MPs to visit their respective constituencies during the coming weekend and organise awareness programmes on Corona virus.

Briefing journalists after the Bharatiya Janata Party Parliamentary meeting, Mr Joshi said Mr Modi also asked MPs to seek help of media to educate people about the disease. He suggested them the do’s and donā€™ts related to Covid-19 which should be told to the people.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan gave a presentation on the measures being taken by the Centre with the help of state governments to tackle the virus.

Mr Joshi also told media persons that there was no plan to curtail the ongoing Budget session of Parliament which will go on as per schedule till 3rd April.
