Ganderbal residents protest against power scarcity

Ganderbal: Residents of Ghatpora village of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday staged a protest against Power Development Department (PDD) for failing to provide adequate electricity to them.

According to wire service KNO, the residents assembled at Ghatpora-Behuma road and blocked it for nearly an hour to protest against the power woes in their area.

The blockade of roads by the residents disrupted the traffic movement on the road.

“From last couple of months now, the PDD officials have failed to provide adequate electricity to the residents here,” the protesters said.

They also threatened to prolong their agitation in case the officials fail to provide the adequate electricity to them.

The residents demanded authorities to provide electricity to them as per the schedule.

Moreover, the traffic along the road remained disrupted and vehicles in large number were seen stuck in the gridlock, caused due to the protest.

Traffic was later allowed to ply only after police officials reached the spot and assured the villagers that their grievance will be resolved soon— (KNO)
