Handicraft Dept organizes awareness for artisan at Verinag

ANANTNAG, MARCH 4: The Department of Handicrafts organized awareness cum artisan registration camp at Government Cafeteria Verinag, here today.

The SDM Dooru, Ghulam Rasool Wani was the chief Guest on the occasion.

Officers of Handicrafts, Induscose, NRLM and other line departments, besides scores of artisans participated in the camp.

Speaking on the occasion, the SDM said that the handicrafts sector has witnessed a glorious past and it is high time to review its pristine glory by introducing modern technology. He asked the concerned to construct a handicraft cluster in the district. He urged the artisans to avail benefit of various welfare schemes in places for them.

The Assistant Director Handicrafts Anantnag said that department has provided interest subsidy of Rs 3.10 crore to the artisan community for setting up their own income generating units and the department is also providing monthly stipend of Rs 500 and 700 to the trainees during the training period.

He informed the camp that presently 28 handicraft centers are functional in the district including 9 centers in Dooru Sub-Division.

On the occasion, SDM distributed awards and appreciation certificates among the artisans.
