Gurez Avalanche: Admin calls off rescue operation after 11 days, fail to trace missing person 

Gurez: The administration has called off the rescue operation to trace out a missing person after avalanche hit Chak Nallah area of Gurez on 15 February as they fail to trace him even after persistent efforts.

According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the operation was called off last evening as they failed to trace the missing person even after persistent efforts for last 11 days.

A snow avalanche had struck Chak Nallah area of Gurez at around 2:30 pm on 15 February, burying a man alive under it. According to officials three persons were traveling on foot toward Tulail from Dawar when the avalanche struck the area. Two persons, however, managed to escape alive from the spot while the third one got buried alive.

Local administration along with army, police and locals had launched a massive search and rescue operation to trace out the missing person but they failed to trace him.

Later, On Sunday, the administration had roped in a special SDRF team to trace out the missing person. The team was flown to Gurez in a specially arranged MiG 7 aircraft.

“They continued the search and rescue operation for three days to trace the missing person but they also failed. The operation was called off late yesterday evening, ” an official told—KNO.

He said that the team will now be flown back to Srinagar as the missing person could not be traced even after the persistent efforts by the team.

The missing person has been identified as Javid Ahmad a resident of Dangithal area of Tulail.

SDM Gurez, Mohammad Abdullah confirmed to KNO that the operation has been called off and the SDRF team will also be sent back—(KNO)
