Over a year on:JK Cement employees without salaries

Srinagar, Feb 24, : The employees of JK Cements Ltd (JKCL) and their families are facing starvation as they have not been paid salaries by the Management of this Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) for last over one year.
The corporation was once a profitable Public Sector undertaking in the erstwhile State but now it is on the verge of destruction.
Scores of employees staged a protest on Monday saying the current management has failed to release salaries. Around 600 employees including the laboures are without salaries from one year, they said.
The protesting employees said that they approached the Managing Director many times, but he always cited lack of funds as the reason. “He is citing the lack of funds as the reason given the fact there were huge sales in the cement till June last year. Wrong policies and wrong decisions are the reasons for its failure,” he alleged and added that the present Managing Director is not addressing the real problem of the plant.
The employees appealed governor to intervene into the matter as early as possible so that thousands of families are not adversely affected.
JKCL has a monopoly on sale and supply of cement to government funded projects and departments. As per government orders, the state agencies have to give first preference to JKCL for purchase of cement.
The employees alleged that the incumbent as well as the MD’s that were deputed in the Corporation in the past reaped benefits at the cost of starving employees and they all destroyed this corporation.
Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce Manoj Dividi and Managing Director Ishtiyaq Drabu were not available for their comments.
