3 Drug Peddlers Arrested In Awantipora

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday arrested three drug peddlers and recovered contraband from them in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.

A police spokesperson said that following specific information about transportation of drugs, a checkpoint was established by security forces at Reshipora, Awantipora. “A Scooty was intercepted at the checkpoint and during checking 500 grams of Charas was recovered,” he said.

He said the Scooty rider, identified as Bashir Ahmad Ganie resident of Pulwama, was immediately arrested and taken to Police Station Awantipora. “During the course of investigation, two more drug peddlers were arrested. Police were able to recover contraband and psychotropic substance from their possession,” he said, adding a case has been registered and investigation has been taken up to nab other people involved in drug trafficking.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings,” the spokesperson added.
