Dilapidated roads irk Rambagh residents

Srinagar : Residents of Zamzam Bund area of Rambagh are up in arms against Roads and Buildings (R&B) department for failing to repair dilapidated link roads in their locality.
Expressing dismay over the dilapidated condition of link roads in their locality people said from last nine months they have not seen anyone there.
Ateeq Bashir, a resident said last year, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) constructed a drain but the road was not repaired and was left abandoned.
He said although drains were completed but roads in the lane were not macasmised again by the authorities
“We approached R&B department many times, but there was not any response from them,” Bashir said.
He also said during emergencies we have to take alternative routes to reach on the main road,” he said.
Residents said despite being close to commercial hub Lal Chowk, the link roads in the colony are pathetic and craving for attention.
Another resident Ghulam Nabi said that during rains the potholes and ditches remain filled with mud and water.
“Some employees of R&B department started the repairing process but after some time they went absconding,” he said.
Residents demanded that the link roads in the colony should be repaired as soon as possible so that they cannot suffer anymore.
“Government spends crores for macadamization of roads. But there is nothing for us. The lanes have not been for the past six years,” they said.
The group said that condition of the road never improved due to the lackadaisical attitude of the concerned authorities.
Last year, one of lane was repaired as that belongs influencial government employee while other lanes were not repaired.
An official at Chief R&B said that said roads in the colony will be macadamized.
“Currently department os focusing more on ‘worst-hit’ roads this year, adding that all link roads in the colony will be repaired and macadamized,” the official said.(JKNS).
