Illicit timber seized, case registered against 3 accused

Handwara: Forest Department on Wednesday claimed to have seized an illicit  timber at Mawer Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district  and registered a case against three accused who managed to flee from the spot.

An official said that on specific input about the transportation of illicit timber, a naka was laid at Drangsoo Mawer last night to nab the suspects involved in trafficking.

“On Tuesday late evening, accused suspected in trafficking were spotted by a special team tried to nab them along with the timber, but the three accused transporting it managed to flee from the spot and are still on run,” an official part of the operation told KNO.

The official also said that the accused took advantage of evening and managed to flee from the spot, adding that approx 100 fts of timber (10 pieces) has been recovered.

“We have also identified the accused,” he said, adding that they have been identified as Rashid Piswal, Manzoor Piswal and Saleem Khan all the three residents of Hadermali Mawer.

Moreover, the official said that a case has been registered against the three accused at police station Qalamabad.
