Train Service Suspended For Security Reasons

Srinagar: Train service was on Sunday suspended for security reasons in Kashmir valley, where life was crippled due to strike on the seventh death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, who was hanged in Delhi’s Tihar jail on this day in 2013.

“We have suspended all train runs in the valley after an advisory was received from divisional administration and police,” official said.

They said railway department is acting on the advice of local administration since safety and security of the passengers and railway staff and property was necessary.

Therefore, they said no train will run on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir track.

Similarly, they said train service will also remain suspended on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.

After August 5, when centre scrapped Article 370 and 35 A besides divided the state into two Union Territories (UTs), train service remained suspended for security reasons for about 100 days.

Train service has become very popular in Kashmir valley as it is economical, safe and fast against other mode of transport available to people.
