AIIMS in Kashmir distant dream

Much hyped AIIMS like hospital in Kashmir is a distant dream as the project is yet to take off fully.
According to the media reports work on the prestigious project has been on halt for the past three months due to authorities failing to resolve different issues. The deadline for the completion of the AIIMS like facility in Kashmir has been set up as 2024. But the people associated with the project believe that there is a bleak possibility about the project being completed on time.
The AIIMS in Kashmir is not the only project which has had teething troubles. Most prestigious projects in Kashmir do hit roadblocks and are rarely completed on time.
Whenever such issues are highlighted the people at the helm pass the buck and no one takes the responsibility for the delay. It has been more than four years since the project has been approved but till date the place for the pump station has not been identified and the issue of having a road leading to the AIIMS site is yet to be resolved.
It’s unfortunate that government has slept over the issue and no serious effort has been put to expedite the work on the health facility which could prove to be a game changer in the Valley’s ailing health sector.
Various government departments need to put their act together to ensure removal of all bottlenecks. But that’s not happening due to lack of coordination among the government departments and the multiple agencies working on the project.
The state government officials are citing dearth of funds as the main reason for the delay. They are hoping that Centre will come for the rescue of the state government and will help it overcome the hurdles.
