Revenue dept in connivance with land encroachers, allege Lolab residents

Srinagar, Jul 31: The residents of north Kashmir’s Lolab have accused the Revenue Department of being in connivance with state land encroachers.
Expressing anguish over the land encroachment, the locals said the Diver-Lolab area, which has a population of around 16000, has been held hostage by some people with vested interests while the revenue department is yet to take action against them.
“Notwithstanding our time and again reminders, the revenue department is unmoved. No significant step has been taken in this regard despite the fact that we have extended our unequivocal support to the department to reinstate the encroached land. It seems the department is in connivance with the encroachers,” they said.
Meanwhile, SDM Sogam Ahmad Hussain visited the spot and assured the people of action against the land encroachers. “We will launch an anti-encroachment drive very soon to recover the land. I take this occasion to reach out to these people who have encroached upon Kahcharai to free it immediately otherwise strict action will be taken against them,” he said.
The locals have also urged the Governor-led administration to take stringent action against the people involved in the act.
“We have over the time heard speeches of Governor Sahib emphasizing on recovering the encroached state land. We are making a humble request to the administration to take stringent action against the encroachers,” they said. (GNS)
