Police seizes huge quantity of contraband in Sopore

Srinagar, Jul 31: Police on Wednesday seized huge quantity of contraband though the drug peddler managed to gave a slip in apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.
A police spokesperson said that a drug peddler, identified as Farooq Ahmad Changal, running a hotel at Chota Bazar Sopore. He was actively involved in supplying drugs in the area.
He said police intercepted the drug peddler and during checking recovered 2.25 kg of charas. However, the drug peddler taking advantage of the overcrowded market and congested area managed to escape. “A team has been constituted to nab the accused,” he said.
He said police has registered a case and initiated investigation into the incident. “Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” he said.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
