Congress on crossroads

Congress on crossroads

Rebellion within the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee is not good news for the party leaders in the Valley.
According to the media reports Jammu based leaders are annoyed with the party top brass and want it to act. There is no doubt about the fact that Congress has always won more Assembly seats in Jammu than Valley but the JKPCC chiefs have always been form Kashmir.
The Congress leaders claim that party top brass focuses more on Kashmir and less on Jammu region. Bharatiya Janata Party playing a religious card in Jammu has hurt the Congress party badly. After the parliamentary elections have ended, the BJP leadership has raised the pitch to have a Hindu Chief Minister for Jammu and Kashmir. On the other hand Congress has a Muslim as a party chief.
It seems that politics in Jammu region has got divided sharply on the religious lines and the next Assembly elections would be fought purely on the basis of the religion. This is not good news for the Kashmir based Congress leaders, who are grappling with number of issues. If the Jammu leaders are able to convince the party high command about having a JKPCC chief from Jammu it would mean that the Valley based leaders would lose their dominance.
The incumbent JKPCC chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir is one of the most vibrant leaders in the Congress party. He has been working very hard to revive the Congress across the state. His activities have not been confined to Kashmir only but he keeps on travelling everywhere to make his presence felt. If he is replaced just on the basis of religion it would be big setback for the Congress party as during all these years he has spearheaded all the political campaigns.
