Connect Karnah, Keran with mainland

Chairman of Awami Ithad Party Er Rasheed staged a 3-day sit-in outside the civil secretariat in Srinagar to make the government aware about problems being faced by the residents of Karnah and Keran areas in frontier district of Kupwara due to no proper road connectivity.
After concluding the sit-in he walked bare-footed with a memorandum and presented it to the Chief Secretary. The memorandum demanded that government should start the work on the tunnels, which would connect Karnah and Keran, with the mainland throughout the year.
The residents of these two border areas suffer during winter months due to the lack of connectivity. Even if someone from these areas dies it takes days together for the body to reach his native place.
The issue raised by Er Rasheed is a genuine concern and the government without wasting anytime should initiate the process to have the tunnels in place.
It’s unfortunate that for the past 70-years no one seems to have paid much heed towards the pathetic plight of the border dwellers in both these areas. Had the people at the helm paid attention towards the importance of having tunnels at place for these areas situation could have been different today.
The MLAs who represented these areas during all these years just provided false assurances to the people and couldn’t do much to get these tunnels constructed.
Now Er Rasheed has taken up the issue and one hopes he takes it to the logical end. It should not be just an election issue for him. Denizens of Karnah and Keran deserve a better deal and they can’t be just left alone and isolated.
At present Jammu and Kashmir is under President’s rule and Centre can easily get these tunnels constructed without any political interference.
